NYU Motion Capture Studio

The System

  • software enables multiple character work
  • can capture up to 24 hours
  • supports Real Time software and offline recording simultaneously
  • supports SMPTE Time Code, can be genlocked with an external source, and can record and sync audio simultaneously with the mocap data
  • How it Works

Cameras 1.3 million pixels, 1000 frames per second

    The camera performs two functions:
    1. illuminate the performance area with specialised high powered software controlled strobe lights. The reflections from the markers (created by the strobe lights) are then seen by each camera.

    2. The more pixel resolution that the marker reflection creates in the sensors image, the more accurately we can calculate the relative 2d position of the particular marker in the 2d field of view.
    3. MCam2 transmits the entire motion data to the Vicon datastation, without the data reduction resulting from on-camera processing.

    Real Time
Vicon Rt has three sequential but very rapid processing stages:
    1. Reconstruction of 3D points from 2D camera images.
    2. Identification, or auto-labelling, including distinguishing multiple characters.
    3. Application of a globally optimised biomechanical model to generate skeletal based data directly applicable to your character(s).

    Flexibility

  • 9-12 feet high tripods allow us to reconfigure the space for various capture situations
  • A professional, portable, sprung dance floor allows us to better support capture of dancers
